OE-Outlook migration 1 - names do not auto-correct
I recently moved from OE to Outlook.
Installed instMsiW, Win2000 KB835732 - 86 - ENU, Office XP (full file) Update, and Office XP (full file) SP3. (All seemed to be required by MS Updates site) QUESTIONS: 1) Outlook still ID's itself as "2002 SP3." Is that the correct update? 2) All messages and addresses migrated successfully. Names of Contacts to whom I have "Replied" auto-complete. ("Auto-complete" is selected.) But the names of Contacts to whom I have not yet formally "Replied" do not "auto-complete" in new messages to them. Even after multiple new messages to the Contact, the name does not auto-complete. Actually, I can work around this by beginning a "Reply," copying the Contact name out of the "Reply," pasting it into the New Message, and then cancelling the fake "Reply." From then on, the name will auto-complete. But this is REALLY CLUNKY. There has GOT to be better way! |

Describe more completely what isn't happening that you think should,
including all steps involved. "Autocomplete" means different things to different people and Outlook has no "autocomplete" option to select. So I'm not sure what you mean by that statement. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Stephanie" wrote in message news I recently moved from OE to Outlook. OE-Outlook migration 1 - names do not auto-correct
Russ: Sorry I've been so long getting back to you; Ms
Newsgroups has just been beeping at me whenever I try to Reply or to Post a new Message. This dialog came up when I pressed "Reply." It is titled "Post a New Message." But I'll give it a try, since it's the best I've been provided for two days. Go to: Prefs/email/email opts/mess handling/adv email opts/when sending: "Suggest names when completing To, Cc, and Bcc fileds" In OE, this behaved exactly like MSWord AutoComplete: I'd type in the first few letters of the name of an established Contact, and the system would complete the name. As I said, all my Contacts seem to have migrated from OE to Outlook accurately. -----Original Message----- Describe more completely what isn't happening that you think should, including all steps involved. That's not how it works in Outlook. Autocomplete uses a cache created from
messages you have sent, not the Contacts data. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "stephanie" wrote in message ... Well, it (1) does NOT include names from new messages you
HAVE sent in the cache: after sending multiple new messages to a Contact, the Contact's name still does not AutoComplete; (2) DOES include names from "Replies" that you have NOT sent. The one work-around I've found is beginning a "Reply," to a Contact, copying the Contact name out of the "Reply," pasting it into a New Message, and then cancelling the fake "Reply." From then on, the name will auto-complete. But this is REALLY CLUNKY. There has GOT to be a better way! -----Original Message----- That's not how it works in Outlook.
