Default StarOffice: few queries about StarOffice

Hi there,

Boss wants us to use staroffice instead of Ms Office bc of the cost:

Can anyone guide me about staroffice?

1. Can we open/change any ms office file in staroffice ?

2. What would be the replacement of MS Outlook (using it only for emails)?

3. Can users (using Ms Office) open staroffice files?

Note: Our all other offices are using Ms Office

anxiously looking for a good advise.

In addition, I believe there is at least one book published on the
topic, and I know you can get a lot of info via searching Google for
"migrating office to staroffice".

My hunch is that biggest issue won't be technical. People don't like
change. Make sure boss is the messenger and can explain in clear terms
why he wants/expects it.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

There is no Outlook replacement in Star Office. The closest available is
Evolution from Novell, formerly from Ximian, whom Novell purchased.

Well... Star is not like for like equivalent to the collective noun
"Office". So what? Just fill in the pieces with what you need. There
are many email/PIM packages out there that can fit, should you want to try.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Yes, there are many email programs and PIMs out there, but since the vast
majority of the world uses Microsoft Office/Outlook, interoperability is a
major consideration and is one reason why Time/Warner/AOL eventually dropped
AOL mail and went back to Outlook/Exchange.
