Excel cannot complete this task with available resources
I need help.
I have an Excel file that is 35MB in size. This file is link to another Excel file that is 19MB in size to get its data from. When I tried to load the file to Excel 2003, it asked me if I want to update the link. If I choose not to update the link, the file loads without an error, but the data are not filled in. If I choose to update, I the error "Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications". I know Excel 2003 has 1GB of heap memory. Is it possible that all the 1GB heap are being used? Is there any way to solve this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

I am having a similar issue with linked files using the VLOOKUP formula. I
have been using this formula and linked files for years, but now with XP-Pro and Office 2003, I get this error "Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications." I am having a similar issue I guess my advice is similar - open the source workbook and Excel will have so much less work to do. Alternative approaches would include: - create a copy of the table in the local workbook, linked to the original, and reference the local copy in the VLOOKUP - OR use a query to retrieve the information in the table into the local workbook and reference the results of the query in the VLOOKUP Bill Manville MVP - Microsoft Excel, Oxford, England No email replies please - respond to newsgroup |
