Default Documents being encoded w/o my choosing

I just installed the 2007 edition of Office Home and Student, but the
documents are encoded when I try to email them to others. So no one can read
anything I create. I didn't choose the setting for them to be encoded, and I
checked to make sure this was not the default setting and it wasn't; it
doesn't show it as being encoded. The recipients of my emails have been able
to view other 2007 Microsoft documents. What's going on? I greatly
appreciate the assistance.

What do you mean by encoded?

OK, a Microsoft tech informed me that those who do not have Office 2007
cannot read documents in the 2007 format. He said to save my documents in the
Word 2003 format to fix the problem. Thank you all for your help!

That's not entirely correct. You can download a compatibility pack if you
have Office 2003 but want to read Office 2007 files. I think it's better for
you to do a Save As and not force your end users to download anything.
