Default Mark Up View Driving Me Crazy

I have a large document that was assigned to me for update. The view always opens in mark up. This makes the 26 page document suddenly jump to 70 plus pages. I have tried saving my normal.dot to a normal view. I have tried changing the document view & saving the document after the change. This is driving me crazy to have to keep resetting the view each time I open the document. Is there a way to change the opening view and make it stick??????

I believe the original author protected the document. When I try to select "unprotect" I am prompted for a password that I was not supplied with. Could the protection of this document be preventing me from making these changes stick?

The document is in Word 2003. OS is Windows 2000 Professional

Since my company upgraded to Word 2003, many of us are having this problem. Any assistance with getting word documents to open in a normal view would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Jayne

No, I haven't tried that. I have received your reply at home. I don't have the document on my home PC. I can't wait to try it. I will post another reply as soon as I am able to test it out. My gratitude for your reply and suggestion.

Thanks,
Jayne

The suggestion helped with some documents but not with the "monster" document. Any other suggestion would be appreciated. When I ask to "unprotect" the document I am promped for a password. I have contacted the originator. The originator claims that the file was never password protected. How can I get around both of the problems?

Again, any help or suggestions are most appreciated.
