Default Outlining Tabs on Word 2003

Thanks Terry. That is all very helpful. I am just missing one thing. I
already have a global template, which is in the startup folder and is the
location I would like my newly customized macros and styles. But when I
click Organizer and seek to select BobGlobal.dot as the template into which
to copy styles and macros from normal.dot, I do not see BobGlobal.dot as an
option (only normal.dot and document 1). How can I get BobGlobal as an
option to copy these customizations to? Thanks again.

Under Tools, Templates and Add-in, click on Organizer. The Organizer is
used to move custom macros, toolbars, styles and Auto Text between
templates. So create a new blank template and give it a memorable name.
Then open Organizer and select normal one side and the new template the
other side. You can now copy across the customization you want.

You can use this method to keep normal.dot slim and fast too by always
saving your customizations to a custom template. If you then place the
custom template in the Word Startup folder (see Tools, Options, File
Locations to either find the location or change the location of this
folder). In a business environment, the Startup folder is often placed on
the server and all users have the Startup path pointing to the server
location. Then company styles, AutoText, etc may be shared by all users.

Thanks Terry,

Now those styles are in my normal.dot template. I have read that it is a
good idea to keep your special macros and styles in another global
template, so that if you have to start over with a new normal.dot you do
not lose all of your customization. Can you tell me how to move these
styles (and a couple of new macros I just assigned) over to my
BobGlobal.dot? Thank you.

"Terry Farrell" wrote in message

When you modify the styles (using Format, Styles dialog) there's a check
box 'Save to Template'. If you check that box before changing the
styles, when you save your document, you will be prompted to save
changes to the template xxx.dot at the same time.

But something odd happens. If I stay in the same document where I
made
all
of the changes to the Heading styles, I can press Alt-Ctrl-1 and it
will
apply Heading 1 style, or press Alt-Ctrl 2 and apply Heading style 2,

This gives the numbering an all.

However, if I am in a new document and press Alt-Ctrl-1 it does NOT
put
any

What do I need to change?

In order to keep Normal.dot slim (as you mentioned below), should I delete

When you modify the styles (using Format, Styles dialog) there's a
check box 'Save to Template'. If you check that box before changing
the styles, when you save your document, you will be prompted to save
changes to the template xxx.dot at the same time.

But something odd happens. If I stay in the same document where I
made
all
of the changes to the Heading styles, I can press Alt-Ctrl-1 and it
will
apply Heading 1 style, or press Alt-Ctrl 2 and apply Heading style
2, etc.
This gives the numbering an all.

However, if I am in a new document and press Alt-Ctrl-1 it does NOT
put

What do I need to change?

Default Outlining Tabs on Word 2003

Macros are stored in modules. The organizer only displays the module names -

In order to keep Normal.dot slim (as you mentioned below), should I
delete the customized styles and macros from the Normal.dot list

Thanks Terry. That is all very helpful. I am just missing one
thing. I already have a global template, which is in the startup
folder and is the location I would like my newly customized macros
and styles. But when I click Organizer and seek to select
BobGlobal.dot as the template into which to copy styles and macros
from normal.dot, I do not see BobGlobal.dot as an option (only
normal.dot and document 1). How can I get BobGlobal as an option

Under Tools, Templates and Add-in, click on Organizer. The
Organizer is used to move custom macros, toolbars, styles and Auto
Text between templates. So create a new blank template and give it
a memorable name. Then open Organizer and select normal one side
and the new template the other side. You can now copy across the
customization you want. You can use this method to keep normal.dot slim
and fast too by
always saving your customizations to a custom template. If you
then place the custom template in the Word Startup folder (see
Tools, Options, File Locations to either find the location or
change the location of this folder). In a business environment,
the Startup folder is often placed on the server and all users
have the Startup path pointing to the server location. Then
company styles, AutoText, etc may be shared by all users. Terry

Thanks Terry. The New Macros Project was there. And I have now copied it
across (after first renaming the New Macros Project in my personal global
template to Old macros). Now I have all of the macros in the NewMacros
project in my personal global template. Thanks again.
