Default Using Outlook 2007 without Microsoft Exchange?

I just installed the Office 2007 CD and I just started out on Outlook Express
a few months ago. I tried to start Outlook 2007 and it says something about
Microsoft Exchange. Could someone explain to me what this is and what I need
to do to get Outlook 2007 working for me? Also, will it be possible for me to
use Outlook 2007 without using Microsoft Exchange? Thank you in advance!!
