Can't open PDF generated from Publisher unless another PDF is open
Hello,
I'm experiencing an unusual problem with Publisher 2007 on 64-bit Vista Business Edition, and the Publish as PDF or XPS function. Specifically, on one Publisher document, if I check the Open file after publishing box, the PDF is generated but won't open unless Acrobat Reader 9.1 is already open and displaying a different PDF. If I copy it to an XP Pro+SP3 machine with Acrobat Reader 8.x / 9.x on it, the same behaviour is seen. However, if I copy it to my Mac running MacOSX 10.5 (Leopard), it opens correctly even if no other PDFs are open. Obviously, as MacOS uses its own built-in PDF reader, this looks like an Adobe Reader problem, but I thought I'd mention it here in case anyone else has come across this behaviour and, if so, can suggest a workaround. I can make both the Publisher document and the PDF it generates available if anyone wants to have a look at them... Any assistance gratefully received. I will, of course, post in an Adobe forum / newsgroup... -- Mark Rae ASP.NET MVP http://www.markrae.net |

I've a computer with 64-Bit Vista and am not experiencing this. Have you tried
the *save as* rather than the *publish as*? -- Mary Sauer http://msauer.mvps.org/ "Mark Rae [MVP]" wrote in message ... Can't open PDF generated from Publisher unless another PDF is open
Hello Mark, If it is one specific publication you might have some corruption
going on. Images are usually the culprit. Can you print the publication with your default printer? Images are usually the culprit. Can you print the publication with your default printer? Yes, it prints perfectly both from Publisher and also from Adobe Reader. Also, I installed the PrimoPDF printer driver and printed to that, and Adobe Reader opened it without needing another PDF document open first. So it definitely appears to be some problem with the Publish as PDF add-in... -- Mark Rae ASP.NET MVP http://www.markrae.net |
