Default entering numbers in a table cell

i am trying to enter a number that starts with zero (0) in a table and it
doesn't recognize it as text

That does not sound like it is a Word Table. Are you sure you don't have an
embedded Excel object? In which case, you could put an apostrophe before
the 0 to get Excel to recognize it as text. In Excel, the apostrophe will
not display in the cell.
