Default Word uses 50% CPU on Windows 7

I have opened a simple 3 page document in Word 2007 and the machine is sat
idle doing nothing but WINWORD.EXE is taking 50% of the CPU processes and is
lagging the whole machine.

I have the latest updates for Office 2007 and checked for other updates for
Windows 7 but there are none.

Is this a known bug or could it be a nuance with my system?

It certainly isn't a "known bug" -- something like that, if reproducible,
would have caused a furor in the beta or RC distributions. I have that
setup, Office 2007 now on Windows 7 RTM, and it runs without any problems.

If this happens with all documents, go through the procedures at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...artingWord.htm and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541. If it's only that one document, then
see http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm.
