Are you by any chance scanning your incoming and outgoing emails in Outlook with a Anti Virus program or similar ?

yes i dif. when that didn't work I contacted customer support for charter
and they gave me the alternative to try (using pop.charter.net and
smtp.charter.net) since neither worked for outlook 07 but both work for
outlook express and web mail, they instructed me to seek support from outlook.

When I try to test settings or send a message I get an error that says
Send test e-mail message: Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing
(SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message,
contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
I contacted my isp and they said since it works with outlook express
and webmail then it has nothing to do with the account and they do
not support anything beyond webmail access.
I do not need to authenticate, so I left the box unchecked in mail
set up as well as in addition settings.

Did you ever get this problem resoloved? I have the same problem when I
switch to Charter from comcast when I am in Wisconsin. If you solved the
problem, what worked? i have tried all the suggestions and I cannot send
outgoing email via smtp.charter.net. The folks at charter said it's an
outlook problem, but I have no problem sending outlook messages via
smtp.comcast.net when I am in Minnesota. Sheila

no, I was never able to get the help I needed. Like you, I am in wisconsin,
and I have done everything charter recommended. I have no problem with the
settings in Outlook express, but express doesn't have the calendar and
appointment features I need. I have no conflicts with any virus protection,
I cannot figure out what the problem can be and it is SO very frustrating.

Default Outlook 2007 can't send e-mails

Thanks for responding. I was able to connect using the smtp.comcast.net
outgoing mail setting. So strange - this never worked before in WI.

To get this to work, in Outlook 2007, I selected my email account name (I
had changed the outgoing mail setting to smtp.comcast.net) and selected
"repair." Then I sent a test email and it worked! I can't believe it.

To try a work around, yesterday I even signed up for a free gmail account
just so I could use the outgoing mail setting for gmail but that didn't work
either though I wonder if I had run the repair action if that problem would
have been solved. I am aftraid to change anything now that I can send files
in Outlook.

Wishing you the best. Good luck.
