I'm doubtful a reinstall would help.

Can you be a bit more specific on your problem? You news post seemed

fine.

Yes, posts I originate for Usenet seem to be fine.

Does it only happen with Forwards (new messages and replies are OK)?

Yes.

You say the problem doesn't occur with Earthlink. Does it occur with

another mail server?

It doesn't occur with my Earthlink mail; Usenet mail I forward which

goes
through Earthlink has the problem. I'm pasting your post as it appeared

on
a forwarded command:

That is not how my OE would forward Michael's post. eg

How did you get that first line:

By hitting the forward button.

Was that captured from a composition window or does this reformatting
occur sometime later?

It occurs in the window that results from hitting "Forward" in OE

What this looks like to me is the effects of some third-party formatting
product such as OEQuoteFix. That product does allow you to create
custom quotes and I'm not certain but I think it may even have an option
to reformat paragraphs in the fashion of RFC2646. The only things
then which would make it unlikely to be OEQuoteFix and force it to be
some unknown similar product are that it would be oblivious of
the convention that denotes a quoted line and it would only work in
HTML mode. That last restriction seems very odd because where such
a tool would be most useful would be in allowing Plain Text messages
retrieved from Drafts to be treated as if they had never been saved there.

If you have such third-party tools installed please remove them
to see if your symptoms change.

None that I know of; I looked in the Add/Remove Program list and didn't see
that program.

Nevertheless that opening quote is a difference that needs an explanation.

PA Bear asked you if your Mail server had provided special software.
Your answer about this question was not clear to me.
If they did then you should try uninstalling it and see if that reverts
the opening quote back to OE's default format.

Alternatively, if you would like to try diagnosing this what I would try
is using FileMon (from SysInternals) to trace *.dll activity by msimn.exe
when you do that Ctrl-f command to forward an E-mail.

Which opening quote? The one about posts which I originate for Usenet? if
so, what I was trying to say was that I can respond to usenet postings (as I
am now) and the messages appear as they should. I have to take no extra
measures to respond to newstroup postings. If, though, I want to forward an
article that I read in Usenet to an e-mail recipient, then I get the
wrapping problem. If that doesn't make sense or it's another opening quote,
let me know.

PA Bear asked you if your Mail server had provided special software.

Yes, the Total Access disk was provided by Earthlink, however the problem
pre-existed the installation; I've had this problem since I logged onto this
computer (which I got new, and with the exception of this one problem has
been stellar in every other respect). Similarly on my previous computer, I
had the software and OE (same version) and there was not a problem.

Your answer about this question was not clear to me.

Perhaps it's because I'm not computer literate; it's certainly not an
attempt on my part to be vague or evasive. I came here for help not to
impede my efforts.

If they did then you should try uninstalling it and see if that reverts
the opening quote back to OE's default format.

I couldn't begin to do something like that. I would only end up destroying
something. Ultimately, if I have to, I can live with this problem, I was
just hoping that I wouldn't have to without threatening my otherwise very
good computer operation.

The customization implied by that "wrote in message:..." you show
could have been caused by something such as OEQuoteFix.

BTW are you sure that your quote was caused by a Forward command?
Some of it looks more likely to have been caused by a Reply to Group
command but then the ... would have replaced the default of the Message-ID
or should we not believe your statement about it being the result of a
forward command at all?

Oh, yes... To reply to newsgroup, I hit "Reply Group", my problem is
specifically when I "Forward". Sorry for my lack of clarity.
