Outlook 2003 Problem
I am using Outlook 2003 and sometimes when I click the icon to open the
program it opens up, but then a second later closes down. Even the little icon in the system tray disappears. It doesn't happen each time I open the program but it is happening rather frequently. Does anyone know what's happening here? Thanks, Jake |

Is there anything logged to the Event Viewer at the moment Outlook closes on

Outlook 2003 Problem
it will suddenly decide to close as it opens.
I didn't have this problem, but did have one just as weird -- appointments all would go into today at the present time instead of where I wanted them to be (in the future). It went away after I did the Help - Detect and Repair. Have you tried that? It is a routine that reinstalls Outlook, but does not require you to enter any key (registration numbers). Even though you are not supposed to lose data, I still recommend you copy your Outlook files to a Hold folder, just in case. Go to Help and enter Folders to get instructions as to where they are. Outlook 2003 Problem
1.. Try running scanpst.exe on your Personal Folder. By default
scanpst.exe can be found here; C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\locale ID 2.. Try renaming outcmd.dat to .old and restart Outlook. All the Toolbars will reset then. This is quite a common problem with Outlook . The default location for this file is: C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook 3.. Try recreating the profile in Control Panel- Mail- button Show Profiles... 4.. Try running Outlook with the /safe switch from your Start- Run window. The command line should look like this (check your path to Outlook.exe); "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Outlook.exe" /safe When this works run Help- Detect and Repair 5.. Start in safe mode again and disable individual add-ons in Tools- Options- tab Other- button Advanced E-mail Options...- button Add-In Manager.../COM Add-ins... -- Robert Sparnaaij [MVP-Outlook] www.howto-outlook.com Tips of the month: -Backup and Restore -Create an Office XP CD slipstreamed with Service Pack 3 ----- "Jake" wrote in message ... Outlook 2003 Problem
I tried the first option on your list and it said it found an error in this
file. I selected the option to repair it. I am crossing my fingers it won't happen again :-p I also disabled my add ins. If it happens again I will try some of the other steps. Thanks for your help. Very much appreciated. :-) Jake. "Roady [MVP]" t wrote in message ... 1.. Try running scanpst.exe on your Personal Folder.
