So if you can tell me why I can't click on the paperclip to open photos,
etc., I will be happy. Did you happen to install IE8 again? Did you disable all real-time protections afforded by your (1) anti-virus application, (2) any anti-spyware applications, (3) disable any third-party firewall (and then enable the Windows Firewall) prior to installing IE8? Assuming either the CDs that same with the computer or the hidden Recover partition was used to reinstall Windows, was a Norton or McAfee free-trial reinstalled (which would NOT have been valid)? Also, I thought the new Clickfree backup would reinstall all of my *.dbx files into OE with no problem, but such is not the case. I wouldn't depend on any such program to backup *and* "reinstall" OE data. There's no way that the {GUID} associated with your new/current identity (after the reinstall) is identical to the {GUID} associated with your pre-reinstall identity. (And I'd hope that your Inbox, Sent Items, and Deleted Items folders were empty and that you'd compacted all OE folders prior to backing up the old data.) If you have "orphaned" DBX files, you may be able to import them. See... Importing a single DBX file http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/how.htm#importdbx http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#imp1 PA.....OE wasn't corrupt as we thought. Huh? Thanks Bruce......I knew you guys would fix this!! I don't use IE much as I
am a diehard Firefox person, so I am just going to remove IE8 and see if that does the trick. I think I used Windows Update to get it.....having refused it a week before. Hi PA......yes, I made the grave error of installing IE8 again and no I
didn't disable anything!! It was a Windows Update install. The CD was the same 5 year old one that Willy originally installed XP on here with, so had to update a lot of stuff. He hadn't quite gotten all the MS updates, but did put SP3 on. As for using Norton or McAfee.......bite your tongue!! You know I know better, grin. Hate them both due to being a WinME user. I have Avast on here. I do believe I compacted them but probably some of the ones on the Clickfree gadget might not have been done. Compact All Folders started working about a week before the reformat. And YES.....that was the problem before. So I will remove this *dastardly* IE8 program and see how it goes. Thanks for the input and you know who sends her best.....(G) Figgs "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote in message ...
