I have a strange problem with OE6 that just cropped up
this morning. When I click on a message in the message list, nothing is displayed in the preview pane. Even when I double click on a message, the window that opens up displays nothing. When I ctrl-F3 the messages, I can see that all of the headers are present and that the messages indeed have content. I have tried the following to no avail: * turned off "Read all messages in plain text" option * emptied Deleted Items folder and compacted messages * deleted the folders.dbx file * moved all of my .dbx files to a different location Any other ideas how to solve this problem? Go to: StartRunType in: regsvr32 inetcomm.dll - Press: Enter.
If the problem re-occurs, do the fix again and download and run CWShredder. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html. Always check for updates before running. -- Bruce Hagen ~IB-CA~ wrote in message ... I have a strange problem with OE6 that just cropped up this morning. Thanks for the info, Bruce. I'm a leery though of doing
wizard-type stuff without knowing what the problem is and why I'm doing what I'm doing. Can you shed some light for me on what is causing this problem and what exactly your suggestion does? It sounds like you suspect CWS spyware may be involved? Also, could you clariy your statement "always check for updates before running"...do you mean check for updates of OE before running CWShredder? Thanks again. -----Original Message----- Go to: StartRunType in: regsvr32 inetcomm.dll - Press: Enter. This has become a common problem caused presumably by Malware. There
is nothing wizard-like about the fix. Just type it in, or copy/paste, and click OK. You want to have OE closed when you do this and if it doesn't show messages right away, reboot first. The problem doesn't re-occur for most, but if it does, then run CWShredder after doing the fix again. That normally cures it. It is a good idea to have and run these programs occasionally also: AdAwa http://www.lavasoft.de/ SpyBot S & D: http://beam.to/spybotsd Checking for updates refers to the programs mentioned, not OE. I don't know exactly how this fix works other than it has fixed the problem for a lot of people. -- Bruce Hagen ~IB-CA~ wrote in message ... Thanks for the info, Bruce. OK, I have now tried all of the following:
1) Ran "regsvr32 inetcomm.dll", received alert stating registration was successful. Launched OE, same problem. 2) Rebooted system, launched OE, same problem. 3) Rebooted system in safe mode, launched OE, same problem. Ran registry checker and disk checker, ran regsvr32 again, launched OE, same problem. 4) Rebooted again, ran CWShredder, reports the system is clean. Launched OE, same problem. The crazy thing is OE was working perfectly fine last night, and nothing has changed on my system since then (as far as I know). Any other suggestions before I try a complete reinstall of OE? -----Original Message----- This has become a common problem caused presumably by Malware. There is nothing wizard-like about the fix. You do see the message headers, To, From, Subject etc, correct? Is
there a frozen hourglass next to the cursor? Try these other possible fixes: In OE: Go to ToolsOptionsReadFonts: Change the default encoding setting to Western European (ISO). And in IE: Delete the Temporary Internet Files, including all offline content. If still no joy: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q318378 Method 2 works for all operating systems except Windows 95. -- Bruce Hagen ~IB-CA~ wrote in message ...
