Default A bunch of e-mails disappeared!

I know I had too many e-mails in my inbox...but a year's
worth (approx. 2000 e-mails) have disappeared. Is there a
capacity to the OE inbox? Why did so many go and where
did they go? I tried the search through tools, etc. no
luck. Help!

Your earlier Inbox probably became corrupted. Do a file search for the
following string (Inbo*.db*) and see what turns up. (if using Windows 2000
or XP, the DBX files are hidden by the operating system so you will have to
modify the search criteria to include searching for hidden files). I
suspect you may find such variants as Inbox(1).dbx or even Inbox.dbt and you
should make copies of those files to a folder you create on your Desktop.
Then visit www.oehelp.com and read about and download DBXtract to that same
folder on your Desktop and run it to extract the contents as eml files. The
eml files can be dragged/dropped into a local mail folder (but please, do
not drag them into the Inbox). Post back if you have problems or need more
help. Good luck.

I *believe* the capacity is 2 MB. At some point the Inbox, or any
default OE folder becomes corrupted. You should only save mail in
user created folders and if they are important, you should back them
up frequently just like you do for your personal folders on your HD.
I assume you do?

You may be able to retrieve them with this tool:

For the future, check out this free backup tool:

Thanks to both of you for your help. I looked at the
DBXtract info but I have Windows 98SE so I can't use it.
Also, how do I try to retrieve these files? I did a
search for *.dbx and found a lot but should I be searching
for something else? It's late here so I will check back
for more answers tomorrow!

What gives you the idea you can't use DBXtract with Windows 98SE? It will
work although you may also need the VB6 runtime files, which are available
from a link on the website at www.oehelp.com under DBXtract.

Both DBXtract and DBXpress work with Win98. DBXpress in Disk Mode does =
not work in Win9x.
