Sub Sub Folder Emails Disappeared
Hi,
I have noticed that tonight, without anything unusual happening, emails have disappeared from my Outlook Express 6. I have a large number of folders in my tree structure, and the affected folders are all sub sub folders, rather than top level folders. Yet, some sub sub folders on the same level as those where emails have disappeared still contain their emails. When emails have been deleted all mails in that folder have disappeared. Nothing unusual has happened today, no crashes, new software installs, error messages etc - a normal day. Is there any fix for this, as I'd very much like to get back these mails as they're important. Thanks, Wrafter |

Are they sub folders of folders that you created, rather than default
folders such as Inbox, Sent Items, etc? Do not store mail in default folders as they will eventually become corrupted.Keep all folders under 100 MB. Compact as explained below and post back with the results. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: FileWork Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). FileFolderCompact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP - (IE/OE) ~IB-CA~ "wrafter" wrote in message ... Hello there, and thanks for the rapid reply.
Fortunately I have identified what the problem is. My housemate somehow-or-other... and I'll kill him in the morning when he wakes up... managed to move some of my *.dbx files to another part of the PC. I was lucky enough to discover this by using search feature in XP. I have moved them back to correct location, and my mail is in place again. Thank you for your considered response. It's appreciated. I have a little different situation but simular to this first part. I opened
OE and read my e-mail a week ago and then minimized it. Later I went back and every folder, ie. Inbox, Outbox Sent Items and Deleted box were all empty. I couldnt do anything about it as they were gone. Everything in my set up seems normal and I don't have any other identies. Well yesterday it happened again, only this time I read my e-mails and closed OE. Later in the afternno when I open it every box was deleted again. Nobody else has access to my compurter. Any Ideas? Start he http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/probl...s.htm#mailgone.
~~~~~~~~~~~ DBXtract http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx DBXtend (additional functionality) http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtend/Default.aspx DBXpress (faster, more powerful, with even greater functionality) http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx ~~~~~~~~~~~ For lost Inbox messages: Inbox.dbx is damaged. Close OE and then Move Inbox.dbx from your store folder (http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/store.htm) to another Windows (not OE) folder and run any of the above applications on the moved file. (A new, empty Inbox.dbx will be created when you next open OE.) Other folders: Close OE. Move the associated DBX file to another Windows folder and run any of the above applications on the moved file. If one of the above applications successfully recovers any messages, count yourself fortunate. Do *not* import the moved DBX file back into OE! Recovered messages may be dragged into an open OE folder, but... Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm. Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE) & Security EJS GUY wrote: I have a little different situation but simular to this first part.
