Normal
It's Normal.dot, and you'll find it in the folder specified for User
Templates on the File Locations tab of Tools | Options. If you have Windows XP, this will be a hidden folder, and you must use Tools | Folder Options | View in Windows Explorer to "Show hidden files and folders" in order to find or see it. -- Suzanne S. Normal
It depends on which version of Word and which version of Windows you have.
In Word 2002 with Windows XP, the default folder is C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates (this is a hidden folder). You can use Windows Explorer to search your hard drive for the NORMAL.DOT template file... remember to include hidden and system files and folders in the search.
