Default Office 2003 won't un/re-install, repair, update

I have bought a new HDD and transfered everything from my
old boot to my new one. In the process, I may have done
something wrong, and now Office2003 doesn't perform any
installation or upgrading functions. Needless to say,
Office products don't work either.

Additional info is posted below.
Thank you.

The message I get is exactly as follows:
"The patch package could not be opened. Verify that the
patch package exists and that you can access it, or
contact the application vendor to verify that this is a
valid Windows Installer patch package.

Office Update Page gives me the following error:
"Windows Installer patch files (.MSP files) from
previously applied Office updates are missing from the
\Windows\Installer hidden directory on your computer. MSP
files are stored on your computer after update
installation completes because they need to be referenced
for future update operations. If the files are missing
you will not be able to apply Office updates. You may
also be unable to uninstall Office products as a result
of the same problem. Please contact Microsoft Product
Support Services for assistance. "

Hi,

Based on the article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=off20
03 , please try the following:

1. Select Start Run; type %TEMP%; in the resulting window, you can find
log files for Office 2003 installation; Open the file: Microsoft Office
2003 Setup(####)_Task(0002).txt where the #### characters in the log file
names are numbers that start with 0001. They increment by one each time
that you run Setup. Therefore, the log file that has the highest number is
the log file for the most recent time that you ran Setup.

2. Reply to this posting with the data present in the above said file.

Regards,
Jagadeesh.P,
Microsoft.

David,
Check out this page and get the msicuu2.exe and install it. I
generally advised people to check the list in the windows installer cleanup
utility against add/remove in the control panel. If its in the cleanup
utility and not in the add/remove its a problem as the programs not fully
uninstalled.Check for any versions of office or office components and
remove them and try to reinstall office

1. Select Start Run; type %TEMP%; in the resulting window, you can

find
log files for Office 2003 installation; Open the file: Microsoft Office
2003 Setup(####)_Task(0002).txt where the #### characters in the log file
names are numbers that start with 0001. They increment by one each time

I tried msicuu2.exe before I posted the message.

When I tried to change Office 2003 of a Windows XP, service pack 2
machine, the error message states:
This patch package could not be opened. verify that the patch package
exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor
to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.

Previously, I downloaded the latest Office 2003 patch and installed
it.

I even looked the 1635 error message. That error message has to do
with the Windows XP Plus patch which I have installed on this machine.

Any other suggestions?

thanks

David,
Check out this page and get the msicuu2.exe and install it. I
generally advised people to check the list in the windows installer cleanup
utility against add/remove in the control panel. If its in the cleanup
utility and not in the add/remove its a problem as the programs not fully
uninstalled.Check for any versions of office or office components and
remove them and try to reinstall office

03 , please try the following:

1. Select Start Run; type %TEMP%; in the resulting window, you can

find
log files for Office 2003 installation; Open the file: Microsoft Office
2003 Setup(####)_Task(0002).txt where the #### characters in the log file
names are numbers that start with 0001. They increment by one each time
that you run Setup. Therefore, the log file that has the highest number

is
the log file for the most recent time that you ran Setup.

Running the cleanup utility hosed Outlook 2003. The only way to get
Outlook to run was to do a complete System restore.
