My old laptop died - Tranafering accounts to new laptop
I'm going to close out this thread and start a new one for transfering
the user account info. Thanks again. Casey wrote: OKAY!!! All of my previous folders are now in place, along with the messages that were in them. Now, how do I tackle accounts and the address book? Thank you so much for the help!!! Casey Casey wrote: Both the old laptop which died and my new one are XP Pro. I am not able to execute the old version of OE. The motherboard died on my old laptop, but the hard drve is fine. I took the drive out of the old laptop and it is now a USB drive on my new laptop. So, going to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder on the old version of OE is not an option. However, I can do this on the new version and it might be a clue as where to look on the old drive. I'll be back. Bruce Hagen wrote: Include Hidden Files and Folders in your search. Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then StartRunCtrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In Windows XP, 2K & 3K, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options | View. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Casey" wrote in message ps.com... It sounds like everything depends on getting these .dbx files off the old drive. How do I do this? I did a search on that drive for .dbx and it came up empty. Am I out of luck? Casey |
