I ended up buying the DBXExpress but Cannot get it installed - it says I
need .NET Framework Ver 1.1.4322 I went do download it and all I saw was
.NET Framework 2.0 - so I downloaded that and it still won't install - any
ideas? Or Links to the Exact file (for the .Net) I need to install?

Did you click the link on the DBXpress page for .NET framework?

Default Problem with "Main Identity" Mailbox

That link is provided in the email that the customers get when they order
the program. I don't know why they don't try clicking on it. It turns out
some don't even bother to read the entire email that is sent to them. That
link is also available on the DBXpress website where it says the 1.1 version
is required. But people can't seem to read very well these days.

You don't have to uninstall other versions of the .NET framework before
installing the 1.1 version. They will work side by side.

Try this link to download version 1.1:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

You will most likely have to first uninstall version 2 via the Control
Panel-Add/Remove Programs.

Were you able to restore the deleted Inbox(1).dbx from the Recycle Bin?
If not, then you would need the more thorough extraction program
DBXpress and in its "Extract from Disk" mode. With your download of
DBXtract, you should have received an email address for Steve Cochran,
who can provide more help, but if you are not attempting it on the
Inbox(1).dbx file, then your other folders may be empty.

I would disable any running program that may interfere with the
extraction and try it again, using just one DBX file at a time to see if
it works for you. You haven't mentioned the file size of the DBX files
you're attempting to extract, but as I said earlier if they are only in
the vicinity of 57 or so KB, they are most likely empty. Also any DBX
file with a number appended to it is most likely corrupted and those are
the ones to concentrate on while attempting recovery. Good luck.

Let us know what happens.

Jim,

Hi - I paid the $5 for DBXxtract and it looked like it was picking up
all the messages from each dbx folder. However, when it was finished I
went to the output directory and Each 'folder' was there but each one
was empty. I'm confused in the sense that I saw the message headers go
flying by during the extract phase.... and it looked as if it were
working, but all I have now is 15 or so folders - all empty.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Garrett

When you shut the computer off, Outlook Express was probably in the
midst of compacting the message store. Inbox(1).dbx was corrupted and
a new, but empty Inbox.dbx was created. Since you've deleted
Inbox(1).dbx you've also deleted the messages stored in that folder.
If you use the Recycle Bin, check to see if Inbox(1).dbx is there and
Restore it. You can then obtain DBXtract from www.oehelp.com to
extract the contacts of the corrupted folder.

If it's not there, you may need DBXpress program (also from
www.oehelp.com ) and use it in Extract from Disk mode all messages
that have not been overwritten, even from a formatted disk. The file
size of the DBX file may give an indication of the contents (an empty
DBX file is about 57KB but if you use email scanning in an antivirus
product, the file size may be meaningless as some AV scanning can
corrupt the file with all zeroes).

Post back if you have questions.

Hi,

Yesterday when I logged off my computer and shut it down, I turned
off the power before it was all the way shut down. Later, when I
turned it back on and opened OE, there where no msgs in my inbox (I
had about 20 in there) and most of my other folders were missing (I
had about 15 folders). Where I went to the store folder, I saw that
Inbox.dbx was there and so was an Inbox (1).dbx

I moved the Inbox.dbx to a temp folder, and deleted the Inbox (1).dbx

I restarted OE and checked the store folder. It had made a new
Inbox.dbx file. So I deleted it and moved the old Inbox.dbx file back
from the temp folder I created. I restarted OE but still couldn't see
my msgs. Upon checking the store folder, I see it created another
Inbox (1). dbx file.

I also tried copying a folder that is working in one of my other
identities into my main identity and it still wouldn't recognize it.

Any Suggestions? I tried one solution where I worked offline and did
a compact all folders, but it still doesn't work.

FYI - Windows XP SP2 with 1 GB Mem

Thanks
Garrett
