Outlook 2002 test email fails for valid email address
I recently installed Office 2002 on a Win98SE system with all the latest
updates. When I setup outlook all seems fine until I attempt to test the email settings. Outlook continues to complain that the test message couldn't be sent and suggests I check the E-mail address field. This very account worked in Outlook express. I tried removing the account and re-entering but I continue to get the same exact error. The strangest part of this is that I can save settings and send myself an email from the main interface which tells me that my settings are correct but the test process is corrupt somewhere. I have also tried re-installing Outlook (Office) and repeated much of the same efforts above but still same problem. I have also gotten some itermitten errors from Outlook but when I checked with the ISP, they could find no fault on their end. I also logged into my ISP's email online by copy/paste the address from the setting window into the web UI and entered the password and that worked fine too. Why can i send/receive email normally but the test email in account settings fails for an address that is correct? Log output recorded during test email attempt - below (don't even see an smtp entry in there): 2004.12.16 13:16:53 Logging Started (level is LTF_TRACE) 2004.12.16 13:16:53 Successfully initialized the resource manager 2004.12.16 13:16:53 ResourceObject [THIS: 0042adb8]: Created 2004.12.16 13:16:53 ResourceObject [THIS: 0042adb8]: Synchronize called (flags = 00000031) 2004.12.16 13:16:53 ResourceObject [THIS: 0042adb8]: Synch operation started (flags = 00000031) 2004.12.16 13:16:53 ResourceObject [THIS: 0042adb8]: StartImport(flags = 00000000, max msg = ffffffff): full items 2004.12.16 13:16:53 ResourceObject [THIS: 0042adb8]: Trying to read remote URL off the resource 2004.12.16 13:16:53 Looking up handler for POP 2004.12.16 13:16:53 Creating proto handler {848F8363-04C9-11D3-B8AF-00105A19CDC6} 2004.12.16 13:16:53 Initializing proto handler {848F8363-04C9-11D3-B8AF-00105A19CDC6} 2004.12.16 13:16:53 ResourceObject [THIS: 0042adb8]: StartImport: Retrieving Blob 2004.12.16 13:16:53 ResourceObject [THIS: 0042adb8]: StartImport: pCallback-StartImport 2004.12.16 13:16:53 Callback::ExecuteThread[THIS: 0042b7a4] (00001000) returns 00000000 2004.12.16 13:16:53 ResourceObject [THIS: 0042adb8]: DeleteNukedItems - I get almost the same thing. Same setup Outlook 2002 / 98SE. But I
can't send e-mail at all. Receive is OK. Is this a bug with Outlook 2002????? Skip s carlyon wrote: I recently installed Office 2002 on a Win98SE system with all the latest updates.
