Increase PF Usage
Hi
Is it possible to increase PF Usage or Physical Memory to have a program, in my case EXCEL, run faster. When running a big EXCEL file, say 28MB, the file takes ages to update. When running an EXCEL update my system usage is 63% CPU Memory and 685MB PF Usage. Ta EricB |

Increase PF Usage
Some Hints:-
1) Close Unwanted Applications / Programs when it is not in use. 2) Minimize the applications when it is not in use. 3) Remove the Unwanted system startup programs. 4) Don’t keep too much of Shortcut links in your Desktop. 5) Avoid adding quick launch icons in Task Bar at the time of installing programs. All the above will consume more RAM memory and if possible to increase your RAM capacity based on your system configuration. Additional Information’s:- Clear the Temp Files / Temporary Internet Files on a periodical basis. Run%temp%Ok Do De-fragmentation StartProgramsAccessoriesSystem ToolsDisk Defragmenter. To check your Paging File allocation Press Windows+Pause Break Key from your Key Board (Or Click My Computer and do right click in the middle of the explorer window select Properties) Which will get you system propertiesAdvancedPerformanceSettingsAdvan cedVirtual MemoryClick Change. Hope this will help you… -------------------- (Ms-Exl-Learner) -------------------- "EricB" wrote: Hi Is it possible to increase PF Usage or Physical Memory to have a program, in my case EXCEL, run faster. You haven't mentioned how much physical RAM you now have in the computer.
Simply adding RAM is one of the quickest (and usually least expensive) ways of physically altering the computer and get better performance out of it. Ms-Exl-Learner has given you a good list of things to think about to improve performance. As far as Page File size, I'd let Windows manage it although looking to see what it's set for is just fine for the curious. All versions of Windows since XP have done a very good job of managing the virtual memory and even of managing the TCP/IP input buffer size (which is not of concern in this case, just thought I'd mention it).
