ALL pictures are distorted ONLY with the merge - without the merge they are
PERFECT....

Are you emailing the merge? How do you know the pictures are distorted?

In step three of the merge wizard, select merge to a
new publication. Are the pictures still distorted? You
don't need to save the new publication, it is easy
enough to create it again. Are you using the catalog
merge? If not it maybe the better way.
