How to make the Global Address List available in Outlook Address B
Apologies because I know this is a problem of my own making but I am really
struggling to resolve it. On my main client PC, the Global Address List is just not available in my Outlook Address Book. If I log on to another client then it is there. There does not seem to be any means of adding it via the Tools - Options menu in the Address Book or through the main Tools - Email accounts... - Add new directory or address book menu. Unfortunately, I think I actually removed it several months ago whilst trying to follow a tutorial on Outlook, thinking that I do not really use the Global Address List and I could always add it again later. Unfortunately, now I need it I cannot remember how I removed it or how to find the tutorial I was following. I am running Outlook 2003 on Vista Pro and Exchange on SBS (2003?). Any help greatly appreciated and apologies for my stupidity. TIA. |

All I want to do is reinstate the GAL. Am I being too ambitious? Do I really need an IT department or Exchange Administrator (as per earlier post) to do that? Please, please can someone help me do this. I thought there may have been a relatively straightforward solution but I will try whatever it takes to resolve it. TIA |

This means you are not connecting to the exchange server. Are you sure you
have the correct account/server information? Did your name resolve when you set up the account? Is a firewall enabled on the computer? The server & account information I am sure is correct and is identical to that used on another client which is working perfectly. When I enter the username it resolves and shows the full name underlined. As far as I know we are not using ISA. The client has Windows Firewall and as a test I set Outlook as an exception but still the same error. However, all was working fine before I removed and added the Exchange account; then 2 minutes later not - I would have thought that if it was firewall problems it would have never worked in the first place. I am wondering whether it is because I am set up as a mobile user and often use Outlook offline. Could it be being selective in when it is actually trying to connect to the server? Please let me know if there is anything I can try. |

Is outlook online now? That is a requirement. (If you are using RPC over
HTTP outside the network its harder to configure too.) Go into the account - tools, accounts - select the acct and click Change then More settings.
