Default Breaking Links-Lost Animation

PowerPoint 2007

I have a ppt file that links to Excel. It is a good amount of animation,
which works when the files are linked. When I break the links to take the
ppt show on the road; the animation is all lost after the links are broke.

Anyone have a fix, work-around or experience with this problem.

How exactly do you break the links?

And have you tried changing the links to Manual update instead? That might be
enough to suit your needs on the road but prevent the animation from getting
lost.

I go to the Office Button, Prepare, Edit Links, Highlight the Links and break
them. This is done, so the presentation can be used on another PC without it
trying to update the links, so the manual update would not change anything.
The links update fine.

Breaking the link converts the excel object into a picture (and apparently loses
any animation properties in the process). Bug, I'd say.

This is done, so the presentation can be used on another PC without it
trying to update the links, so the manual update would not change anything.

Understood. It *should* work the way you want if you set them to manual. If
they're set to manual, PPT won't try to update them unless you explicitly force it
to.

Um. That's the theory, anyhow ... 2007 seems to have an issue or two in this
department and perhaps this is one of 'em. Have you tried setting links to manual
and had PPT update regardless?

The links update fine.
