IT dept uninstalled then reinstalled SQL Now my contacts are missi
IT got into my computer to repair my SQL server program. They ended up
uninstalling then reinstalling the program. I believe I probably have an updated versionat this point. Now I am getting error messages and am unable to use ANY of my contacts. IT has no idea why the SQL program would be effecting my contacts. Any thoughts? |

Neither would we because you provided no information. Outlook version,
information store, why you "can't use" your Contacts, what happens when you try, and how you are trying to access them would seem the very least you should have posted. Include Error messages and Event viewer information. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Kimitt" wrote in message ... IT got into my computer to repair my SQL server program. #1) Are you by chance using Outlook with BCM? If your IT dept wiped out all
things related to SQL then you would no longer have any access to your contacts which are maintained in an SQL database (at least for the version of Outlook you're using) and which in turn would explain why things turned problematic. #2) If you are not using BCM - then only most logical cause of the problem would be a custom form with custom code that is somehow tied to an SQL database. Outlook, by itself (other than BCM as noted above) is not affected by anything SQL. Sorry, this was my first time using the forums to try and solve a problem.
My IT department has not been able to help me. I didn;t realize there was so much information I needed to post right away. Yes, and these are the errors I get everytime I start up Outlook:
"Business Contact Manager cannot be loaded. This action cannot be completed because Business contact Manager cannot access the database. Service MSSQL$MSSMLBIZ was not found on computer. Do you want to change the database configuration?" (get 3 screens of that everytime, not sure why...) When I click to change the configuration, I get this error: "This action cannot be completed because Business contact Manager cannot access the database. Service MSSQL$MSSMLBIZ was not found on computer." Then I check "Select an existing database" "type the name of the computer where the existing BCM database is stored, and then click CONNECT." When I click connect It gives me an error sound and then says: BCM for Outlook: "Cannot find the selected database. Verify that the network and the computer on which the databases are located are available, and that you have permission to access." My SQL was not acting properly, which is why they uninstalled then reinstalled it, but I am hoping that somewhere on my computer is a SQL back up or something I can use to rebuild or reconnect the BCM. Is there any hope? Thanks, Karl. "Karl Timmermans" wrote: #1) Are you by chance using Outlook with BCM? You'll need to re-install BCM.
You should also tell IT that in future they should be aware of what's on the system before killing everything, especially services installed by applications such as BCM. Whether or not you'll regain access to your old BCM database will likely depend on how complete a purge was conducted on your system and what, if any, data backups were done (an activity I'd suggest handing over to IT). The MSSQL$MSSMLBIZ service is installed/used by BCM. Wow, that pretty much answers everything. Thanks so much for all your help!!!
One last question: How do I just reinstall install BCM without wiping out Outlook? To be honest, I am a less than excited about the prospect of handing this computer over again to anyone else... Been a while since I've actually played around with installing Outlook & BCM
myself and then had different variations. After making a backup of your system - jus re-installing from your original setup CD's should be all that you need. Whether or not you'll get your BCM data back depends a great deal on whether or not your original files got deleted in the exercise as well (simply re-installing Outlook doesn't cause your data to be lost but as mentioned, but don't recall the recovery process for BCM off-hand since it's not something we focus on for product development). Karl;
I had the same problem defined above. When you attempt to re-install or "repair" the BCM database, that item is grayed out in the advanced mode. There is no way to re-install the database as the install software will not work. I even tried to do it from the install directory off of the disk. Nada. This is not the first time I have had a problem with BCM. The first time I gave up and bought 2007 thinking (how stupid of me) that this problem had been solved. When I up dated my sql from 2005 to 2008 bingo, no BCM. Since BCM supposedly does not use sql, why the problem. I am in Vista, 32bit HP laptop. Is there anyone who knows how to solve this problem?
