Default Populate two+ fields on a Form, based on a pop up form's record

Hello ALL:
not as long as it seems. just a good explanation )

On a data entry form, The form (that pops up the below dialog) has:
projectid*, issueid*, cycle#, startdate, enddate, and other stuff.

I bring up another data entry dialog form (which is based on a "cycle" table) where a user enters "cycle" info - start date, end date, and comments. The dialog table structure is:
projectid*, issueid*, cycle#*, startdate, enddate, comment,

where there can be many cycles of comments, for each issueid, based on the form's projectid and issueid fields.

When the user enters a new cycle set of dates and comments in the pop up dialog, I want to copy down to the form, the highest (cycle#) dialog record.

Example: in the form the user is working on projectid 100, and its issue #1; they push a button for the cycle dialog, and (i really need the projectid and issueid from the main form to populate the cycle record also and have the dialog only show (linked to) the current projectid and issueid)
projectid*--issueid*--cycle#--startdate--enddate------comments
100 1 1 1/1/2004 1/15/2004 first cycle info
100 1 **2 2/3/2004 2/16/2004** second cycle info

when I close the dialog, need to pull the **cycle 2 # and dates** (highest cycle#) down to the main form's fields, cycle#, startdate, and enddate fields (only).

On Close of the dialog, can I set the main form's (current record's) fields using something like mainform cycle# = dialogform max of the cycle table, as well as the dates?
Don't know what that looks like as far as "!"s and "."s are concerned and I am not using recordsets, rather just bringing up and closing the form with the recordsource being the table, being filtered (not sure thats working either) to the projectid being worked on.

tia, Michael
