Default Subtotal in a report

I have a report I'm building to give me activity by category. Within the
report I have information like Inventory on hand, inventory in transit, on
order, etc (by month).

I'm looking to be able to add a subtotal in the report for total inventory
for each month. What's the best way to calculate this?

Thanks.

Please post the SQL statement you are using to "feed" that report.

"How" will depend on "what"...
