Default BSOD after sending a fax on WinXP

Hi,
I'm trying to send faxes from my IBM ThinkPad T-42 (winxp) to an
address overseas (requiring a 14 digits phone number).
The fax application dials the number, reports sending the fax, but
falls-down with a blue screen of death. The error message is
STOP: 0x000000C5 (0x20736649, 0x00000002, 0x8053E5E3)

My guess is that there's a faulty driver problem.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the fax application.
I've updated my modem's driver.
I've not installed SP2, and would prefer not to do it while my system
isn't stable.

What else should I do?

If Event Viewer doesn't give you an answer, it would require PSS and debug
logging to sort.
