error 553
I run Windows XP and IE/OE 6 with all the latest updates installed. For the
past 3 days I have been unable to send email from Outlook Express because I get the error message 553 (0x800CCC79). My ISP says the problem isn't on their end and I need to remove Outlook Express. I have stopped Norton Antivirus from running on emails and I have tried turning off Norton Internet Security, with no success. I have read the Microsoft article on how to remove IE 6 and I am completely confused. The only thing it seems to talk about is changing registries. Quite frankly, the process described in the article seems well above my skill level (I've had my computer about 6 months). Has anyone had this problem before? And can anyone advise me on a simplified method of removing and reinstalling Outlook Express? Is this something a novice can do or do I need to call in a specialist to fix my computer? |

Hi Karen,
Did your ISP support walk through the account configuration in Outlook Express. You might try re-entering the information or remove the account and go through the setup again. Are you connected with your ISP when sending mail using their account? Here's a good article on the error. Thank you Tim. Yes I believe my ISP did go thru my account configuration
but after reading your response I went back and looked again. In Tools-Options-Connections-Internet Connections-Dial up Settings, I did notice the Proxy Setting box was checked today when it never has been before and I know it isn't supposed to be. I unchecked it but am still having the same problem. I am going to try restarting my computer to see if that makes a difference. And yes I am connected to my ISP when I try to send email. I read the article you referenced and it has the information my ISP told me I have to do which I have done numerous times but I appreciate your effort on my behalf. "Kuay Tim" wrote in message ... Thank you Vanguard but I don't know what it means to "configure the email
account to authenticate to the SMTP server". I tried the following without success, Tools-Accounts-Mail-Properties-Servers-and checked "My server requires authentification". Is that what you mean? I appreciate your willingness to help. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vanguard" see_signature Newsgroups: microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlooke xpress Sent: Monday, January 17, 2005 8:39 PM Subject: error 553 "Karen" wrote in message ... I tried the following without success, Tools-Accounts-Mail-Properties-Servers-and checked "My server requires authentification". Is that what you mean? I appreciate your willingness to help. Yep. It appears you might need to configure the e-mail account to authenticate to the SMTP (outbound) mail server. You then get a dialog asking if you want to reuse the same login credentials as for the POP3 server or to specify different username and password. If the POP3 and SMTP servers that you use in that e-mail account are from the same e-mail provider, just reuse the login credentials from the POP3 server for the SMTP server. Otherwise, you enter whatever is the appropriate username and password for the SMTP server. The reason why you might authenticate with different login credentials for the SMTP server is that, for example, you send your outbound e-mails using one SMTP server from one e-mail provider but yank your inbound e-mails from a POP3 server from a different provider. I do that with Gmail and Yahoo. I yank POP3 from them but I push SMTP using my ISP's SMTP server. |

This is the error message I receive:
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was '. Subject 'Order', Account: 'mail.chirpmail.net (1)', Server: 'mail.chirpmail.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC79 There was one recipient. After I had trouble I tried several other friends, one at a time and always got the same error message. "Frank Saunders, MS-MVP IE/OE" wrote in message ... "Karen" wrote in message ... Thank you. I use my ISP for both incoming and outgoing email. I did try to
authenticate the outgoing but I get the same error message. One thing I discovered last nite was a proxy setting box was checked (see my reply to Tim above) and it now won't stay unchecked.
