Default 'Signatures' function in Outlook 2003 unavailable

Suddenly the signatures section as in Tools - Options -Mail Format -Signatures is greyed out, and I can't access it. I'm using Office 2003 with Vista.
Could someone please advise what might have caused this?

What type of email account? Did you try Detect and Repair?
