Numbering rows for sorting
If i understand you correctly try this:
Say you want your numbers from A1 to A1000 In A1 input the number 1. In A2 input the number 2. Hilight (select just these two cells). Move your cursor down the the lower right side of the selecte cells (should look like a small box) Your cursor will change from a bib plus to a small black one. Using your left click (Hold it down). and while holding your mouse button down drad that box down to 1000. It will keep adding numbers in sequence till you get where you want. BTY the futher you move down the mouse the faster it will go dont go to far past where you want. This way the numbers dont chage but you can keep the number format for easy sorting. -----Original Message----- My spreadsheet has 1000 rows. I want to number the rows so that I can undo a sort after the fact. The only way I know to number the rows is to do so manually (too labor intensive) or to put one in the first row and then set up a formula so that each row is equal to one plus the previous row. Is there some way I can number the rows "automatically" and then have the numbers become text such that they will never change? Thanks for the help. . |

. . . and if the column you are AutoFilling is alongside other data, you
can double-click the little black button in the bottom right-hand corner of the cell and it will fill down on its own. Andy "Dan" wrote in message ...
