Default Print Gridlines/Scale not correct printed

Greetings,
I have 2 questions (Viso Pro v5.0):
1) Can I print the gridlines? specify what intervals? etc.
2) I used the Page Setup | Drawing scale to specify that I
wanted a 1:1 (1 in = 1 in) but printed it is not true to
the scale. I skirted the issue by experimenting with the
scale (and wasted paper) by setting the 1 in = 0.998 in
and it is OK. Is there a better way? Is this a driver
issue?
Thank you in advance.

Visio 5.0 doesn't have a "print the grid" feature. You can accomplish
something similar by creating a background page with your own grid lines on
them.

Sounds like a print driver issue to me, but that's so close it might be
integer rounding in Visio itself. Have you tried any other devices to see
if you get better or worse results?

Thank you Lori,
If I created a page with grid lines, how would I set it
to be a "background" page?

I don't have Visio 5.0 in front of me right now, so I hope I get this right.

Once you create a background page (it has to be a background page when you
create it...there should be a radio button that lets you choose in Page
Properties or Page Setup). Make the foreground page active and go to
File-Page Properties or Page Setup (not sure what it said in Visio 5.0).
There should be a list box that lets you select the background page you
created.

Another trick for grid lines: After you have drawn all your the grid lines
on the background page and you're happy with them, select them all and add
them to a layer called "grid" (likely you'll need to add that layer). Then
set the layer properties of grid to be Printing, but not visible or active.
That way they don't get in your way when you are drawing, but they will
print.

Sorry my instructions are so vague, but I can't seem to find a copy of 5.0
around anywhere and I'm pretty sure the UI has since then.

Hopefully one of the MVP's can look over my response and see if it's correct
for 5.0.

Lori is one of the originals who developed Visio 1.0 and has been involved
in all versions of Visio. Currently she is on "loan" to one of the other
Microsoft products.
