Default OE6 and Vista/WIndows7

1. How would I go about installing OE6 on a clean install of Vista or
Windows 7 (assuming it is even possible)?

2. If I install Vista or Windows 7 on an XP machine with OE6 already
installled, will the program continue to work?

1: Can't be done. OE was a part of IE6, (both part of the OS), and cannot be
installed as a stand-alone program.

2: OE will work as a part of XP, but not Vista or Win7. You would need to
keep XP on the machine and boot to that OS to use OE.

Thanks Bruce,

[Begin Rant]

It is as I feared. So far, OE6 is the only mail client that I don't have
significant usage issues with, and Dragon Naturally Speaking has full
support for OE. I have tried Thunderbird and Windows Live Mail and they
are both difficult to operate with voice recognition software. I spent a
great deal of time creating macros to overcome these deficiencies, but
neither piece of software is really designed with voice recognition in
mind, and the macros frequently do not work or produce unexpected results
(this is not a problem I have seen in other major software).

With Windows Live Mail, it and DNS crash every time I issue a command to
send or post a message, it loses messages and entire message archives, and
has an exceedingly complex interface with way too much stuff it's trying to
do. I just want to read and send news posts and emails, thank you. Just a
buggy mess IMHO. Don't like how the interface looks when run under XP, but
that would change for the better under Vista/Win7.

Thunderbird is not fully supported in DNS either. It has a rather complex
filtering interface which I definitely do not like. And the complexity is
magnified by the fact that you have to set up a separate set of filters for
each account. I have allot of email accounts, each for various purposes,
and my current filtering system moves messages from these into a large
number of local folders. I'm constantly having to scroll up and scroll
down to see all of my accounts and local folders. After a while your jaw
aches and your voice cracks.

Guess I'll just have to stick with XP for a while longer so I can continue
using my favorite email client.

[End Rant]

There may be an option with Win7 to install XP in a Virtual machine window
which would allow for the use of OE from the hosted OS. Since Win7 isn't
out yet, its not clear if that will work well, and it probably will require
updating the machine you are using.

Otherwise, MS is being consistent in terms of its concern for OE users.

That doesn't mean one can't install VPC and XP on a Win7 machine (regardless
of fancy hardware or OS version) and then run OE from the Win7 machine
without using "XP mode". If they have an old XP machine, then they have a
licensed version and that would let them install it in a VPC or VMWare
environment so they could use OE if they wanted to that way.
