Switching To New Computer - Should I Wait To Install Office 2007
Hi,
I received Microsoft Office via a workplace contract - $20.95 (too good to pass up) - and now wonder whether I should wait to install it. I am concerned about the "activation." I am building a new computer incrementally, by upgrading the one I have incrementally. Hard disks are 1st to be replaced, then add a blu-ray burner, then get front-panel media read/writer (compact flash, SD, etc.) / USB ports. I don't have a full-up win XP install disk, just a recovery disk from the manufacturer. I figure this will not install on a new motherboard, and don't want to buy Win XP _again_ just because I will have essentially a new computer, so I'm intent upon waiting 'til Win 7 comes out before completing the project and needing a new OS. Question: If I were to install Office 7 on my computer now, what sort of problems would I run into with the activation when I slip a mobo with a 3 Ghz processor, etc. I understand that activation is done by hardware configuration, so I expect at that time to need a new key. Will there be a big hassle with Microsoft to convince them that an Office copy that I install on the XP that I have now, is not being installed on a 2nd computer, only restarted on a new motherboard? Would I be better off just to use the installed tools (Office 2000 - works fine) and wait 'til I get Win 7 on the new mobo to install Office 2007?. TIA, Dave Head |
