I've just been asked by my boss to create a range chart. I have no idea with
it is.

Default What is a Range Chart

It's a line chart, so put your relevant data into two columns (first column
for whatever is your X variable, second column for your range data). Help
Excel by putting a label above the range column, while keeping thee cell
above the X values column blank. Select the data and create a line chart.

To get control lines, use a technique like this one:
