Default Can't remove email accounts from OE

I want to remove 3 email accounts from OE, so I go to Tools/Account and in
the Mail tab I click on the Remove button after highlighting the respective
accounts. So they are removed from the account list. Problem is that when I
close OE and reopen it, they reappear in the list. How can I fix this? Thanks.

Default Can't remove email accounts from OE

The reply to this post stated that McAfee caused the problem.
Here is the post:
Options/settings in several third-party applications may be disallowing the
deletion of the account. These include Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea
Timer, SpywareBlaster, SpySweeper, Norton AntiVirus, McAfee VirusScan and/or
Antispyware, and Zone Alarm (Free and Pro).

I only have Webroot Spysweeper and Norton Internet Security 2005 installed. I
disabled both Spysweeper and NIS2005 firewall and antivirus but this problem
persists. Any other clue? Thanks.

Don't just disable them, don't allow them to run at all by starting in Safe
Mode (reboot and hit the F8 key until the Safe Mode boot screen comes up)
and then try to delete the Accounts involved. See if they stay deleted
then.

Jim, I just did what you said (reboot in safe mode) but no success: the email
accounts still remain even after removing them. But I experimented creating a
new identity and importing these email accounts from the original identity
into the new one and when trying to remove these accounts from within the new
identity created they were successfully removed. So, what about creating a
new identity and importing all files and settings from the original one (mail
mesages, folders, message rules, accounts, etc)?

Creating the new identity seems to be the way to go. It's possible there is
some registry bit that has been twiddled and cannot be repaired.
Unfortunately, when we move to Windows Mail in Vista, identities will no
longer be an option and this is one more choice MS has made that all the
MVPs disagreed with, but alas, to no avail.

Disabling (or even uninstalling) SpySweeper and/or NIS does NOT help. You
have to determine the "protections" in each application that may be
disallowing the changes from "sticking". (In Spysweeper, these
"protections" are called Shields.)

Thanks. I created the new identity and imported successfully all
messages/folders, accounts and address book. How can I import the message
rules and blocked senders' list? Thanks.
(I have no plans to upgrade to Vista, I'm happy with XP, and I've read many
negative comments on Vista, bloatware with no added value...)
