Default Office 2007 configuring on each start up

Hi Trev,

Your idea sounds intriguing, but I can't find the area of "local
security policies" you mentioned below. I tried searching through the
help files to find it, and I can't find any hints related to
"administrator account status" in the Administrator Tools section of the
control panel. If you or someone else can help out, this idea sounds
like it would help with the never-ending "Please wait while Setup does
something-or-other" messages whenever I try to open an Office 2007
program.

Thanks,

Louise

I may have found a fix, but I haven't tried it, I solved the problem
by
taking the long way around about 2 days ago, I reinstalled xp and
loaded
office 2007 then upgraded to vista ultimate.
but what I found that may work (someone please try and let me know)
go to: control pannel administrator tools local security policies,
expand it and go to security options, then at the top(in the right
pane) you
will see "accounts: administrator account status" - it is set by
default to
disabled so enable it then you may need to restart your PC.
hopefully this works
I stumbled onto this while trying to change the vista login screen to
classic.
Trev.

Default Office 2007 configuring on each start up

WHOOO HOOO!!! I SOLVED IT!!! At least for me!

I had exact same problems, as it seems MOST of you did too - but I had
it with WINXP and Office 2003 Standard with Outlook Business Contact
Manager (POS...)

After WEEKS of scratching my head - reading numerous message boards and
trying EVERYTHING... I think I know now by heart all the techarena
boards and all the same references to the same worthless MS tech support
cases on so many of the various help boards out there with members all
having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM really with no resolution...

"Windows Installer starts every time I open Office, Word, Outlook,
etc"

I even went out - bought a new hard drive for my laptop AND a 1TB usb
external drive to work it out with all these suggestion on these
boards... I've restore my new drive so many time in the past week I
can't believe it's still working!

OK - enough already Eric... what was the solution for you?

SIMPLE FOLKS -

1) FORGET EVERYTHING YOU READ - UNTIL YOU OPEN THE "EVENT VIEWER"
... brain fart - I should have know this from LONG ago... ALWAYS LOOK
IN THE SYSTEM EVENT LOG - FIRST!!! Then if you can't figure it out - go
after those hard to decipher program logs in all those other posts you
read...

a)Right Click on "My Computer" icon on the desktop, select "MANAGE"

b)The Computer Management tool built in to XP opens - Click on the list
on the left under "System Tools" on the "Event Viewer"

c)Since we're having problems with a particular application - why not
click on "Application"

2) NOW - Look carefully at the displayed list of system events... look
for the warning signs - the yellow triangle with a bang ( ! ) in the
middle.

open each of them by double clicking on the line item anywhere... it
will open a pop-up window that has that particular "Event Properties"

3) READ - READ and look at the "Description" section... I have several
where it simply said something to the tune of

" Detection of product .... feature 'ProductNonBootFiles' failed
during request for component ...."

skip these... figure 'em out if you want to... but move on.. its not
what we were looking for...

I opened another and another - I began noticing that a lot of them were
screaming at me the same bloody thing - here's a bit...

" Detection of product .... feature 'ProductNonBootFiles' failed.
The resource 'c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Microsoft\Office\OPA11.BAK' does not exist.

Whoa... something to look into more... SO...

4) I simply browsed from mycomputer to the c: root folder - then on to
the above highlighted directory where - sure enough, OPA11.BAK did not
exist.. the computer is not lying...

EPIPHANY MOMENT - LOOK OUT...

OH CRAP! I remember backing up my hard drive with Acronis so that I
could transfer all my info to a new hard drive... part of that backup
process it asked if it could save space by not backing up temp files and
bak files I think was included... SO - that may have been a reason this
file was missing...

I, like a lot of fellow 'puter nerds out there seem to never have
enough hard drive space for all I do... so I contantly run CCleaner and
other drive space optimization tools - usually no problems...

I think somewhere along the lines I must have deleted the backup...
which for some reason or another is now REQUIRED - someone please check
with MS and verify this - that the .bak file is required now to be able
to open any updated Office Suite programs...

I came to this conclusion BECAUSE... the next steps CURED my case...

5) Copy the DAT file in that folder. Right click the existing file in
that folder - for me it was OPA11.DAT . COPY it to the same directory -
and an exact copy is made - but it is named "COPY OF...DAT".

6) RENAME your new copy to OPA11.BAK

Voila! Problem Solved!

7) Open Word, Outlook, Excel - Smile happily and be glad you know Eric
- thesailor - from Wichita, KS (I'm a real estate broker and investor
now... If I can do it - you can do it... )

8) Get back to work... or become the hero for the office and take a
lunch/smoke break.

I realize all our problems are nearly identical - and there are
probably other things going on in a lot of the cases - but for heavens
sake - look at the EVENT VIEWER and look what its telling you... would
have saved me a week of no emails, stress beyond belief and loss of
productivity...

I wonder how many hours are lost in the corporate environment on this
one item... I found NO WHERE ELSE this solution...

I hope it works for you! I hope it is just this easy for you too!

If this helps anyone else - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE forward this post on
and reply back here so we know it works for you too!
