Problem installing Office 2003 on Vista
After I wrote this I did- it works now- Thank you!
Now if I can only figure out the printer sharing... "DL" wrote: Have you uninstalled any trial edition first, then cleared temp files & rebooted? "ddnma" wrote in message ... I am having the same problems- I bought my Office 2003 Student Edition new and my new Vista machine keeps asking for missing .cab files- any suggestions? Thanks "clementine" wrote: "Help" wrote: I tried copying the contents of the Cd to my hard drive and installing it that way and it did not work at all. When installing it from the CD i get to the point where the installation begins to extract files from the CD and i get error messages stating that cabinet files (.CAB) are missing. At that point I've been aborting the installation. Thanks! |

Problem installing Office 2003 on Vista
This has been happening to me as well. I thought it was my mistake. I have
the original CD plus a replacement cd when I lost the original in 2004 - both giving the same .cab errors file missing bla bla. Additionally, I have one recurring appointment in Calendar which I cannot touch (add, move, nothing) without it giving the error "microsoft office has encountered unexpected problem and must shut down". Very aggrivating when working on projects "Paula" wrote: I just purchased a new laptop with Vista Home Premium o/s. I was told by the retailer that Vista would work with my programs that are on my XP. I have been trying to install Windows Office 2003 on my laptop. I keep getting "Installation Error: File not found" the screen keeps asking for various cab files. The screen also indicates I should look for it on by browsing "Original Installation Source Required". The CD I am using is the original. I have tried changing the compatiblity and running as the administrator. I receive an error message looking for cab files and stating an error code 2350. Is there a patch or something I need to complete the installation? Can you help me? Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions. |

Problem installing Office 2003 on Vista
Took the same steps long before finding this blog- Windows update keeps
adding 2007 unless I hide the update and then my security program sends error messages. I can't get 2007 off my computer even though when I try I get error message that there is no Office 2007 to uninstall. I have the exact same problems Paula is describing - "Paula" wrote: Hi Garfield-N-Odie, Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. As you suggested, I uninstalled the trial version of Office 2007. I again tried to install my Office Basic Edition 2003, using my original disk. I ran the installation as administrator and checked the option to "run this program in compatibilty mode for Windows XP(service pack 2). This is the error message I got: "INSTALLATION ERROR: FILE NOT FOUND A required installation file CD561401.CAB could not be found" Then the next message is: "ORIGINAL INSTALLATION SOURCE REQUIRED If you installed Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003 from a CD, please insert your CD. If you installed Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003 over your network, please browse to the installation source on your network. Once you havve located your installation source, click ok." They have a box with E:\ and a button "Browse". Below that they have butons "OK" and "CANCEL" This laptop is not on a network. During the time I was attempting to install Office 2003, the CD WAS in the drive. The computer can read the drive, so I know that is not the problem. IS there some step I am missing? Or a patch that needs to be downloaded? They said installing Office 2003 on Vista was not a problem. Do I need to change operqating systems to run my programs??? Please.. Please.. is there any help for this problem? Thanks, Paula "garfield-n-odie [MVP]" wrote: If your new laptop came with a trial version of Office 2007 preinstalled by the computer manufacturer, then you need to uninstall the trial software before you install your copy of Office 2003. Otherwise, pretend we can't see your screen from here and quote the error messages you see exactly and completely (not just the parts you think are important, or your vague recollection of what the error messages may or may not have said in part, or what you think the error messages meant, or...).
