transfer OE6 settings to new computer
I have transferred my OE6 settings (addresses and messages) to a new computer
and everything appears to work, except for folder management. I can't create a new folder and I can't create a message rule to transfer incoming mails to a specific folder. All this worked perfectly on the old computer (running W2000, the new one has XP, but both OE6), so I suspect something going wrong in the transfer - but what? -- Margaret |

Try creating a new Identity.
If it works, import the mail from the old Identity. -- Ronald Sommer "Margaret" wrote in message news :I have transferred my OE6 settings (addresses and messages) to a new computer : and everything appears to work, except for folder management. Alias Documents and settings/user account/local settings/application data/identities/(identity)/microsoft/Outlook Express. This last item I imported as oe6 store directory into the new computer's OE. Oddly enough, it also imported all subfiles of Inbox, but not Inbox itself. I wonder if I should delete the whole lot and try again - perhaps I did something wrong during the process of importing, when I found I had 2 inboxes, 2 outboxes etc? But how do I reverse the process in the most efficient manner possible (not leaving traces of identities which are not in use? |

Make sure that the default folders, Inbox, Sent Items, Drafts and Deleted Items have NO messages in them before copying and moving it to the new computer. Make new folders under Local Folders and call them, say My Inbox, My Sent Items, etc. Do not store messages in the default folders and make sure that you copy the ENTIRE message store to the new computer before attempting to import using the new Outlook Express (File/Import/Messages, etc.). This seems to be the answer: thank you very much. Can I now just delete the
old identity from docs and settings/.../identities? Or will I lose something vital then? -- Margaret "Ron Sommer" wrote: Try creating a new Identity. Alias I think you may have hit on it with the comment about making sure the default folders were empty. The answer to your question is that I put them on to an external disk and imported from that into the new OE. In the meantime, I followed Ron Sommer's advice and created a new identity and imported into that, which now seems to work. I still don't know quite what to do with the old identity - can I just delete it? Margaret |
