Is there a way to turn off sound in Word 2003 after spell check?

In Tools | Options, General tab, clear the option to "Provide feedback with
sound."

Alternatively, you can turn off all sounds for the operating system. At
least for Windows XP, here's how to do it: In Control Panel, double-click
Sounds and Audio Devices Properties. On the Sounds tab, choose "No Sounds"
for "Sound scheme."

You can also choose (None) as the sound for specific events. There are no
events listed specifically for Word (there are for some other applications),
but if you can figure out which event is the one you're describing, then you
can change the sound for that event Windows-wide.
