We don't necessarily need security for this database..... The database is set to open up to the Switchboard and limited menus and the database itself is hidden, which is just great, no problems.

We would like to make it so that if another user, wanted to open the database with the Shift key pressed, then they would get a password prompt.... so something like this? Is it possible to only password the edit and development portion and not force users to enter passwords?

Thanks in advance for any direction you may be able to provide!

There is code at

http://www.mvps.org/access/modules/mdl0011.htm
and
http://www.mvps.org/access/general/gen0040.htm
you can use to disable the shiftkey.

You can modify the code to set it back from another database.

Or you could use Albert's utility to set it on/off. Look for By Pass Shift
Key Code at
http://www.attcanada.net/~kallal.msn.../msaccess.html

Also, after reading about MDE, I am not sure I want to do that
either! at least not at this point.

Why not? You just need to be sure to keep a copy of the mdb, as that's the
only place you can make design changes to forms/reports.
