Outlook 2007 Cannot Authenticate
I have a remote user on Windows XP and Outlook 2007. We configured his
Outlook profile to connect to my Exchange 2003 server for RPC over HTTP. We cannot get it to authenticate and get the following error message: "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." His computer is NOT part of the network domain. However, he does VPN into our corporate network and he can ping my mail servers as well as my domain controllers. NOTE: This is the first satellite user I have had on Office 2007. All my other satellite users are on XP and Office 2003...All are fine and never had issues authenticating and connection to my Exchanger server via RPC over HTTP. Thanks for the help. Manny |

Outlook 2007 Cannot Authenticate
So he's using VPN and RPC over HTTP? Does everyone use RPC over HTTP over
VPN? Typically, the VPN connection takes all traffic so the servers and paths used by Outlook need to be routable from inside the network. If everyone VPNs and it works, then the paths are probably routable. Outlook needs ot be set to use the vpn or any connection. Outlook 2007 Cannot Authenticate
Hi. No they do not. We just did this because it was having issues with the
first time authentication. Normally remote users configured for RPC over HTTP do not use the VPN. In any regards, thanks for the help. We figured out the issue. It turns out that Office Updates were not applied. Once applied, it all worked. This particular user uses a 3rd party consultant for their IT work. When they could not get it to work, they called me at HQs to resolve the issue thinking it was with the server. I asked the IT consultant if he applied all patches/fixes/updates. He told me yes, but upon further review, he only applied the Windows Updates...but not the Office Updates...hence the culprit. Thanks, Manny "Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote: So he's using VPN and RPC over HTTP? Does everyone use RPC over HTTP over VPN?
