Default corrupted Inbox? Error 0x800C0133

Hi Group.
I'm a newbie here. I am running XP Pro with IE 6.0.2900 and OE 6.

Everything was running fine until yesterday when I was not able to download
any e-mails to my inbox. I get the error message:

An unknown error has occurred. Account
'incoming.verizon.net',Server:'incoming.verizon.ne t',Protocol:POP3, Port:
110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0133

When it first happened, I was still able to see and open other e-mails in my
inbox from previous downloads. Now today, the inbox looks to be empty
although I did look at the inbox.dbx file and it shows that it still has a
few gigs in it. (which I know is too much. I was just about to clear it out
and archive it for 2008.) Now I can't even access the old e-mails to move
them to an '08 folder.

Also, and I don't know how this fits in, but I have tried to access verizon
webmail to download my new e-mails and those from the last 2 weeks (I leave
my incoming mail on the server for 2 weeks as backup) From my desktop
computer, this one, I am not able to open the webmail account. However, I
turned on my laptop and plugged into to my network cable and I can access my
webmail from the laptop.... When I try to access from the desktop machine,
the page freezes and nothing happens??? Strange one to me.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do to get the inbox back? and be able to
download e-mails again?

TIA for your help and advice.

Accessing Webmail through the Internet doesn't even involve OE, so I don't
have a answer for that.

For your Inbox. Since the folder appears blank, you waited a day too long
for it to be easy. You will need a retrieval tool now.

With OE closed, rename the Inbox.dbx to Inboxold.dbx and drag it to the
Desktop. A new Inbox will be created automatically when you open OE.

Open and close OE and return to the message store and delete the
Pop3uidl.dbx folder. Any messages that are still on the server will be
downloaded again to the new Inbox.

Now you will need a tool to get the messages out of the old Inbox.

DBXtract:
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx

DBXpress: {much faster for large files}
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx

To help avoid this in the futu

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and
leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.

And backup often.

Default corrupted Inbox? Error 0x800C0133

Hi Bruce,
Well, I did as you recommended. I now have a working INBOX and am able to
download mail on a regular basis. I don't yet know how to retrieve the old
e-mails though.

I have DBXtract loaded and tried it but I don't know what file I am supposed
to import from or export to? I bought DBXtract a few years ago when I had a
similar problem. Now, I don't remember how to run it and I couldn't find
any help on the program. I think I may also have purchased DBXpress as well
but cannot seem to get it to start up. Any recommendations? or ideas where
I can find a help file or instructions?
Thanks.

When it first happened, I was still able to see and open other e-mails
in my inbox from previous downloads. Now today, the inbox looks to be
empty although I did look at the inbox.dbx file and it shows that it
still has a few gigs in it. (which I know is too much. I was just
about to clear it out and archive it for 2008.) Now I can't even
access the old e-mails to move them to an '08 folder.

Also, and I don't know how this fits in, but I have tried to access
verizon webmail to download my new e-mails and those from the last 2
weeks (I leave my incoming mail on the server for 2 weeks as backup)
From my desktop computer, this one, I am not able to open the webmail
account. However, I turned on my laptop and plugged into to my network
cable and I can access my webmail from the laptop.... When I try to
access from the desktop machine, the page freezes and nothing
happens??? Strange one to me.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do to get the inbox back? and be able
to download e-mails again?

TIA for your help and advice.

Paul Johnsen
