BAK folders
Have several of these saved on different partitions and directories.
Each are within a Main Identity sub-folder/sub-directory, under a differently named main folder/directory. Tried to import but there are no options to point to where these folders reside. What I want to mainly do is see what e-mails are there and then save the ones I want to another folder, preferably to a folder within the current OE6 folder (non-default type, i.e "archived abc".) What's the best method to do this without wiping out any of the currently saved e-mails ??? thanks ray |

BAK folders
These are backup files created when you compacted. If you are not missing
any messages, they will just have messages you already have, or have deleted. Drag all the bak files to the Desktop. Rename them all to Temp1.dbx, Temp2.dbx, etc. Do the following for each folder, but one at a time. Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on the Desktop minus the dbx. (Temp1,for example). Open the new folder and then close OE. (You must do this). Go to Windows Explorer and locate the Message Store folder for your OE identity, but don't open it. Click on the Desktop and drag the file from the Desktop in the right hand pane to the OE store folder in the left pane. Prompt - "Do you want to overwrite......."? Click Yes. *Note* If you have moved the Outlook Express store folder from it's default location on drive C to another drive, drag the dbx file to a location on that drive and not the Desktop. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "thinman" wrote in message ... BAK folders
BAK folders or folders of BAK files you've moved from Recycle Bin (for
whatever reason)? A file named, e.g., INBOX.BAK is a back-up of a given identity's INBOX folder created when compacting all folders in the identity was last performed. If you have no missing messages in your INBOX folder, you shouldn't need anything in the INBOX.BAK file. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ thinman wrote: Have several of these saved on different partitions and directories. BAK folders
Bruce......
Many THANKS for the help. All went smoothly. What had happened was I made backups when I reinstalled Win98 on numerous occaisons but then never used them after the reinstall. Consequently, there were alot of documents which I needed to recover before deleting all the BAK's. ray "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... These are backup files created when you compacted. BAK folders
You're welcome. But, these bak files were not created until they were on an
XP/SP2 machine I assume? -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "thinman" wrote in message ... Bruce...... Many THANKS for the help. All went smoothly.
