Default Formula/worksheet error

I have a large spreadsheet that I am trying to modify a formula in. Whenever
I make any change to the formula, rather than returning the result in the
cell, it shows the actual formula. When I audit the formula it says that
"the cell currently being evaluated contains a constant". Have I hit a
limitation in the spreadsheet?

Default Formula/worksheet error

Format the cell to something other than text, then re-enter your formula
(select cell, F2, Enter)
