Default Outlook Express' Find Message window is partially hidden when maximized

My system is running Win98SE.

The taskbar is positioned along left edge of desktop.
Taskbar has "always on top" selected.

If Outlook Express' Find Message window is
opened and then "immediately" maximized before
a search is performed, the Find Message window is
partially hidden under the Taskbar (in my case).

This behavior is unexpected.
Maximized windows aren't suppose to be hidden, right?

Well, it sounds normal to me. Always on Top would put the Taskbar over
all other windows— unless you also have checked Auto Hide at... "R-Clk
Taskbar, Properties".

But, if you won't click Auto Hide, then you must resize the OE Find
window, & never use the Maximize button. Its new size will be
remembered.

Yes, the taskbar behaves as expected when all options are
selected except Auto Hide. But, what's unexpected is
that the "maximized" Find Message window gets partially hidden.
Other maximized windows (except for Event Manager,
which DOES hide the taskbar) are not hidden at all.
It's no big deal. Just wondered if this behavior happens to
others out there. I've been using Outlook Express for a long time and
I don't remember the Find Message window behaving this way before.
I noticed it started happening after recently installing
a new AGP video card (ATI Radeon 9800 Pro) and
using a higher resolution (1280 x 1024, 32-bit color).
Some possible triggers of this behavior might be ...
- the higher resolution
- going into Safe mode due to problem installing the video drivers
- other

WYSIWYG. Instead of maximizing the smaller Find window, "grab" its edges
with your cursor and drag it to the size you want. It'll be that size the
next time you open it (CTRL+SHIFT+F).

Otherwise you can "grab" the top of the maximized window and move it to the
right a bit.

Whoa! This is odd ... the Find Message window now
opens up maximized (before a search is performed).
And, it now partially covers the taskbar that is
suppose to be Always on Top.

How absolutely bizarre!

I still say you should use Auto Hide with Always on Top— check both!
Then, you can stretch the Taskbar to your heart's content, & all windows
will appear above it, until you move the mouse to the side of the screen
that has the hidden Taskbar. Then, it pops up above all others!

However, if you won't check Auto Hide... hmm, now I recall... it would
push everything else to the side. Nothing should actually be under or
over it, if I'm recalling correctly now. But a maximized window might
not have anywhere to go! It can't be pushed, maybe. Therefore, you are
getting the weird effects you do.

If it's all good now, let it be. Otherwise, as Bear confirms, size the
windows that misbehave by dragging a border with the mouse, & put them
where you want—off the Toolbar. You will need to click the Restore
button first. Their location will be remembered. Then, never click to
maximize it ever again.
