Default Faint graphic on odd pages of book fold doc

I have a 360 page book that uses the book fold option. In order to get it to
print properly I use .doc format from word 2007. When I print (either on my
HP or on a large Panasonic), odd pages get a faint bar about 1.5" wide by
1/16" high starting at the left edge, not the left margin.

This bar does not show up when displaying on the screen in print, draft or
web view so it doesn't seem to be a watermark. The bar does not show up when
I save the file as a PDF and view it.

Even though I have the bar in every section, near the end of the book there
are three odd pages with no bar.

Although watermarks can be added by a printer (and you won't see them in
Print Preview in Word), the fact that you're getting this "watermark" on two
different printers and not on every page (not even on every odd page) argues
against that. If you were getting it in the PDF as well, I'd think it was
something hidden in the XML that was showing up on print, and that may still
be the case if you're using the PDF add-in from MS, which functions
differently, I gather, from the "printer driver" method used by Adobe
Acrobat.

Oh, wait, you specified "print, draft or web view," and I'm guessing by
"print" you mean Print Layout. What do you see in Print Preview?

Try printing a few pages from the PDF. If the bars print from the pdf, then
try checking some of the options from the book fold preferences. It sounds
like you have something from page set up on thats printing on you left pages.
If you would like to email me the pdf I could check to see if it was
somethng from your printer or something from word by opening the pdf up in
Illustrator.

Rita and Suzanne, I'm sorry that I haven't responed - somehow I thought that
I'd get email when somebody posted to this topic. In any case I'm still
fighting this problem. It's the last remaining problem in the way of a final
printing.

*Printing from the PDF file (created by Word save as PDF), the bars do not
show up (but it doesn't print in bookfold format so isn't of much value
except for diagnosis). Rita, the PDF file is 7MB but I can send it if you
think that might have value.

*Printing to either printer I still get the bar.

* Print Preview doesn't show the bar, neither does Print Layout.

Another observation: In one case where a picture ended up in the same space
as a "bar", the bar appeared to be behind the picture. Generally the bar
appears mingled with the left portion of the second line of text on the page.
