Default Nickname file goes missing

Hi all,

I have two clients that their nickname file either goes missing completely
or loses contacts. This has been going on for awhile. I figured it was user
error but one of my clients is fairly technically sauvy so when he started
having problems I took a closer look.

I also had it happen a couple of months ago but thought it was a glich when
I archived my .pst. However, my other users don't archive.

Not earth shattering but annoying. Any ideas as to why it happens and what
I can do to prevent it.

We're running Outlook 2k2 and 2k3 fully patched on SBS2k3/Exchange2k3 fully
patched.

Thanks

I can't think of anything off-hand that would delete the autocompletion cache,
but the connection between the mail profile and the cache can get damaged. A
new profile usually fixes it.

AutoArchive doesn't touch the autocompletion cache.

If a new email profile was created, if possible rename new profile to match
old profile name.
Nicname files use the active email profile name.

When they just disappear it usually means the profile is corrupt. If you
delete the nk2 file, the new one outlook creates might work ok, but if not,
a new profile should fix it.

Bad advice. Renaming the new profile to match the old achieves nothing and
simply restores the old profile settings. The correct procedure is to rename
the NK2 file to match the new profile name.
